Professor Abdullah Baabood is Chair of the State of Qatar for Islamic Area Studies at Waseda University in Tokyo. He was the founding Director of both the Gulf Studies Center at Qatar University and the Gulf Research Center at the University of Cambridge. He also serves on the boards of several academic and policy institutions.

His research focuses on international relations, political economy, globalization, and regionalism, with particular expertise in the development and external relations of the GCC states.
