Ali Engin Oba Ambassador (Ret.); Professor., Çağ University

Ambassador (Ret.) Prof. Dr. Ali Engin Oba is a member of the Turkish Historical Society and Professor of International Relations at Çağ University, where he also heads the Department of International Relations.

He graduated from Galatasaray High School and earned degrees in Political Science and Modern History from Ankara University. He pursued further studies in Serbo-Croatian and Bosnian at Belgrade University and in Slavonic Studies at Göttingen University. He holds an MA in Dramaturgy and a PhD in Political Science from Ankara University, a second PhD in Philosophy from Istanbul University, and completed postdoctoral studies in War Studies at King’s College London. He is also a graduate of the Royal College of Defence Studies in London.

Ambassador Oba served 41 years in the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, holding senior posts including Ambassador to Belgrade, Khartoum, and Kinshasa, and Consul General in Paris. Following his retirement, he joined academia, teaching at Atılım and Çağ Universities, and directing the TASAM Strategic Center Office in Ankara.

He has received high-level decorations from Sudan, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, and the Central African Republic. His research focuses on international relations history, Turkish foreign policy, diplomacy, and war and peace studies. He speaks French, English, German, and Serbo-Croatian.
