Ambassador Lt Gen (Rtd) Kayonga Charles currently serves as the Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to the Republic of Türkiye, with concurrent accreditation to Lebanon, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan.
Prior to his current appointment, Ambassador Kayonga represented Rwanda in the People’s Republic of China, with additional accreditation to Vietnam and Pakistan.
Before joining the diplomatic service, Ambassador Kayonga had a distinguished military career spanning over 35 years, during which he held various command and staff positions and rose to the rank of Lieutenant General. He notably served as Commander of the Land Forces and later as Chief of Defence Staff of the Rwanda Defence Forces.
Ambassador Kayonga holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Makerere University, along with several military and security qualifications earned throughout his service.
