Akram Umarov Director of IAIS and the First Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy

Akram Umarov is Director of IAIS and First Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at UWED. A specialist on Central Asia, his research focuses on security and conflict studies, public diplomacy, Afghanistan and development issues. A Chevening alumnus, he was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Governance and Markets. He served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies and the Academy of Public Administration under the President of Uzbekistan. He holds MA and PhD degrees in International Relations from UWED and an MA in Development Studies from the University of Sussex.
