Ambassador Eduards Stiprais began his career in Latvian public administration in 1991 and joined the diplomatic service in 1993.
Ambassador Stiprais has held senior positions both in Riga and abroad, including Deputy Permanent Representative (2003–2004) and Permanent Representative to the EU in Brussels (2004–2007), Head of the State President’s Chancellery (2007–2008), Director General for Bilateral Relations (2009), Ambassador to the United Kingdom (2009–2013), and Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs (2013–2016). He later served as Head of the EU Delegation to Uzbekistan (2016–2020) and as Ambassador to France and Monaco, as well as Personal Representative to the International Organisation of La Francophonie (2020–2024). Before his current appointment as EU Special Representative for Central Asia, he led the Policy Planning Unit at the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Throughout his career, Ambassador Stiprais has received numerous national and international honors and has published widely on European integration and global affairs.
