Kaan Devecioğlu is the Coordinator of North African Studies at ORSAM (Centre for Middle Eastern Studies). He earned his PhD in International Relations from Istanbul Medeniyet University with a dissertation titled “U.S.-China Rivalry in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait from the Perspective of Power Transition Theory (2011–2021).” He has conducted fieldwork across North and East Africa.
His research focuses on the role of global and regional actors in Africa, with particular attention to security, migration, and terrorism. He specialises in Turkish foreign policy toward Africa, the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, and the Sahel. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and his analyses have appeared in national and international media outlets.
