Marc Owen Jones is an Associate Professor at Northwestern University in Qatar, specializing in disinformation and digital authoritarianism. A leading expert on social media manipulation and political repression, his investigations—from exposing fake journalist networks to uncovering large botnets—have received global media attention. He is the author of Political Repression in Bahrain (Cambridge University Press, 2020) and Digital Authoritarianism in the Middle East (Hurst/Oxford University Press, 2022). His work has been widely recognized, earning the British Council’s UK Alumni Professional Achievement Award and selection as one of Foreign Affairs’ “Books of the Year” in 2023.
