Michael Keating Executive Director, European Institute of Peace

Michael Keating is Executive Director of the European Institute of Peace, where he works with local and international partners on conflict prevention, resolution and mediation. Until 2018, he served as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia. His United Nations career also included senior assignments in Kabul, Lilongwe, Jerusalem, Gaza, New York, Geneva, Islamabad and Mogadishu. Previously, he was Associate Director at Chatham House and led the Africa Progress Panel, chaired by Kofi Annan. A Cambridge graduate, he writes widely on conflict, peacebuilding, humanitarian engagement, climate change, environmental degradation and international affairs.
