Nicu Popescu Co-Director, European Security Programme & Distinguished Policy Fellow, ECFR; Former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova

Nicu Popescu is Co-Director of the European Security Programme and Distinguished Policy Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations, based in Paris, and an Associate Professor at Sciences Po. He served as Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration from 2021 to 2024, having previously served as Foreign Minister in 2019. As Deputy Prime Minister, he coordinated Moldova’s European Union accession process. Earlier in his career, Popescu worked at the EU Institute for Security Studies, the Centre for European Policy Studies and ECFR, and advised Moldova’s Prime Minister on foreign policy and European affairs.
