Pınar Artıran Academic, Bilgi University


Dr Pınar Artıran is the WTO Chair Holder and Director of the Research Centre for International Trade Law and Arbitration at Istanbul Bilgi University Faculty of Law.

She began her career as an attorney specialising in international arbitration before completing postgraduate studies in European Law at the College of Europe in Bruges and a PhD in International Trade Law at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, supported by a grant from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Dr Artıran has worked for the Academy of European Law at the EUI, served as a visiting research scholar at the University of Michigan Law School, and gained experience at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Internal Market and the Appellate Body Secretariat of the WTO.

Appointed WTO Chair in 2014, she has acted as a legal expert for the European Commission on the revision of the Turkey–EU Customs Union Agreement and has given evidence to the UK Parliament on Turkey–EU and Turkey–UK trade relations.

Dr Artıran previously served as Senior Legal Adviser to the Turkish Minister of Trade and Legal Consultant to the Turkish Exporters Assembly. She is a frequent speaker on international trade, WTO law, EU law and investment, and a regular commentator for BloombergHT Turkey.
