Mr. Pirro Vengu has served as the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Albania since July 2024. Born on April 24, 1986, in Elbasan, Mr. Vengu previously held several senior positions in government and public administration. From 2019, he served as Director General of the Durrës Port Authority. Between 2017 and 2019, he was Director of Anticorruption at the Prime Minister’s Office, and from 2013 to 2017, Head of Cabinet at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Earlier in his career, he worked at the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) in Paris, first as Programme Assistant (2009–2010) and later as Research Programme Coordinator (2010–2013).
Mr. Vengu studied at Lycée Henri-IV in Paris and earned dual bachelor’s degrees in History and Philosophy from Université Paris Nanterre. He also holds a Master’s in Political History from Université Paris Nanterre (2010) and a Master’s in International Relations from the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (2011).
