Radmila Shekerinska has served two terms as Minister of Defence of North Macedonia. Previously, Shekerinska was the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European Integration and Foreign Aid Coordination. It was during her tenure (2002-2006) that the country succeeded in becoming an EU candidate country.
Shekerinska has been a four-term Member of the Parliament and presided over its National Council for European Integration. Shekerinska was the Head of two OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Missions and is the only person who has participated in the negotiations of the three agreements that have shaped today’s North Macedonia: Ohrid, Prespa and Przhino Agreements.
Shekerinska is the Vice-President of the Party of European Socialists (PES) and a member of the European Council for Foreign Relations.
