Yunus Turhan is an Associate Professor in the Department of International Relations at Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University. He earned his master’s degree from Hacettepe University and completed his doctorate with honours at Middle East Technical University (METU) in 2019, during which he was a visiting research fellow at the Department of International Development, Oxford University. He served as a postdoctoral researcher in African and African American Studies at Harvard University during the 2024–2025 academic year.
Dr. Turhan has lived and studied in South Africa and contributed to humanitarian projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. His research focuses on Turkey-Africa relations, non-state actors in politics, development studies, foreign aid, faith-based and secular NGOs, and peace and conflict studies. His work has been published in leading journals, including Third World Quarterly, Journal of Balkan and Near Eastern Studies, Diplomacy and Statecraft, and Development Policy Review.
